As women we often find ourselves asking the question, “Am I beautiful?” We may not be directly asking someone, but I am sure at one point or another you have asked yourself that very question. Which then leads me to ask you this question. Do you think you are beautiful? More importantly, what do you think “being beautiful” truly means?
If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen a recent letter board post I did that said, “Be your own kind of beautiful.” In the caption it read, “You are either as beautiful or as ugly as YOU believe you are.” Pretty powerful right? Feeling beautiful and having confidence in ourselves is important because we were created in His imagine. But really, being beautiful is not based on how you look on the outside.
God created man in His own image. In the image of God, He created male and female. {Genesis 1:27}
Beauty is something that we are always striving for. Think about the billion dollar beauty industry. We are always trying to cover and conceal. Get rid of grays, fine lines, wrinkles and love handles. We look to others at times for inspiration and maybe even admiration. We think they are beautiful, but we doubt that we are. Why? We obsess over silly things like pimples, height, weight, clothing size, eye color, hair color….and the list goes on and on. We all just long to “be beautiful.” Whatever that may be in our minds. But we forget that we already are beautiful to the creator of the universe. Pretty amazing right?!
When we stand in front of the mirror and we are not satisfied with our outwards appearance, perhaps we should look to our inside instead. Because beauty, real beauty is found in your heart, given to you by Christ. Beauty is much more than you or I can “see.” Being beautiful is more than what you look like or wear. Beauty is in the way you make others feel about themselves. Beauty is letting God’s light shine through you! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30.
Think about this question for a minute. Is there someone you think is beautiful for more than just their looks? What makes that person beautiful? Maybe it’s the way they treat others or the way they make you feel loved and appreciated. Maybe it’s the kind words they speak and the genuine smile on their face.
If you see something beautiful in someone, tell them!
Also, I encourage you to look for beauty in yourself this week, no matter what you may see when you look in the mirror. Do something that lets your inner light shine and radiate God’s beauty in you!

Elizabeth
