The Power of a Prayer Warrior {Parent}

Being called a prayer warrior, to me is better than being called; pretty, funny or amazing.  When people come to me and ask me to pray for them, it makes my heart smile. I have always had a strong relationship with the Lord. That isn’t something that just happens. It is something you need to constantly work at and I have. Now don’t get me wrong. Yes, I have ALWAYS loved the Lord, but I have not always acted like I love Him. I have made my share of mistakes along the way. But I know that we serve a loving God who wants to have a relationship with us. We have prayer to communicate with the One who created us. What could be better than calling on our Heavenly Father. So how exactly can we call upon Him? By praying and becoming prayer warriors. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can stand against the devil’s schemes.” Curious about strengthening your prayer life? Keep reading then!

How do we as parents instill in our children, not only a love for Christ, but a desire to obey His commands. Not just the ones that seem “fair.” or “easy to follow.” But ALL of them. Because when we let our guards down, we open to door to the enemy. As parents {and people in general} we need to be strong prayer warriors, and know the authority given to us in Christ. When we pray and don’t see instant results, it can be frustrating to say the least. But we must remember that it isn’t a lack of power and there is not something we can do to speed up the process. {actually sometimes God’s lessons are in the process. But that’s for another post.} It is all dependent on trusting that God’s power is made perfect in our weakness. We don’t need to “pray harder,” we just need to trust more. Trust that He holds the power and through Him, we can receive it.

Prayer is what keeps me going each day. Think about how often you check your phone. What if every time you went to check your phone, you read your Bible. Because there is nothing and I mean nothing that you will see coming up on your alerts that will be more helpful in strengthening your relationship with God than going to the love story that He wrote for YOU. Becoming stronger in your prayer life will not only help you be a better person, but will help you stand firm in the faith of Jesus Christ, when raising your children. I have heard people say that they don’t have time to pray. Or they forget, or they don’t know what to say.

I urge you to pray as much as you breathe.

God knows your every thought. Your every hope. Your every desire. So there is nothing you should be holding back from Him. Prayer is communication with the Lord. He wants to hear from you and if you listen with your whole heart, you can hear from Him!

Praying should be second nature. We should always seek His will and help in every situation. In both good times and bad. If you strengthen your prayer life, you will be better equipped to face life’s challenges as they arise. Phippians 4:6-7 says, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.” Before telling God everything you want and need, thank Him for all that He has done in your life and in the world we live in. Then you will start the conversation and will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

So how do you strengthen your prayer life and become a “prayer warrior?” You may be asking yourself right now. Good question. Let’s say you are a body builder. How do you strengthen your body? By going to the gym. Exercising and feeding your body good, healthy foods to fuel you, right? So in order to strengthen your prayer life, you need to do the same. Start by talking to Him. He’s listening. Feed your mind and spirit the Bible. Dig into the Word. Go to church, get into a Bible study. How else are you going to grow spiritually if you aren’t feeding yourself God’s words?

If you need a simple prayer to start the conversation with Him. Please feel free to start here.

Lord, I desire to strengthen our relationship and become a prayer warrior. I desire this not only to help me be a better person, but to help me be a better parent. Search my heart and take away anything that takes me away from you. Let my eyes see you first and always, in every aspect of life. Thank you for all the blessings you have given me and thank you for the pain and trials, that have lead me to call upon you. Please let my children see you in me. Help my words always be words that speak truth and life and build my child up. Let me teach them to love, as you have loved us. Give me the words to speak when I am angry, and the words I want to speak are not your will. Please watch over my children and protect them from the enemy’s lies. Help them always know your truth and your power. Keep them safe and in your care. Let them become strong, Godly people who desire to do good for you Lord. In Jesus name. Amen.”

I hope this has been helpful to you. If you have any questions or need prayer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
